Battle of Britain Day: 15 September

“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”

I managed to get down to Goodwood with my father for the Battle of Britain mass launch on Tuesday 15 September. This day is Battle of Britain Day in the UK, as we remember probably the most ferocious day of fighting during that battle in 1940.

Over 1,000 German bombers and fighters attacked the UK on that day. The RAF pilots who defended the skies above Britain faced an uphill struggle, due in part to their small numbers. The pilots became known as ‘The Few’, after a poignant speech made my Prime Minister Winston Churchill, which you can hear below.

Over 30 Spitfires and Hurricanes took part. Below is a rough video that I’ve quickly thrown together. None of the take off or flypast shots have been repeated, there really were that many aircraft there!

I make no excuses for the music and Churchill speech at the start, it puts everything firmly into context.

The video was shot on a Canon G30 and edited in Vegas Pro.
